Today is Sunday, 31 July 2006.
On this day in 1945, the U.S.S. Indianapolis was sunk, having on 26 July 1945 delivered the active components to Tinian Island of the atomic bombs which would shortly be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Of 1,199 sailors, only 317 would survive several days until rescued from shark-laden waters.
It’s 4:21 AM, CDT as the crow flies. Big news: 40+ civilians dead in bombing in Lebanon. A bomb, made-in-USA, delivered by Israeli Air Force. Soon Hezbollah, or someone, will return the favour, and Israelis will mourn.
