"Poemtry Day"
Today is Sunday, 1 August 2010.
“A Poem for You, If You Like It”
I.
There is something vastly wrong:
A country
With so little respect
For poetry
That it doesn’t,
On occasion,
Kill a poet.
II.
A country has such scant
Respect for poetry
That it never kills a poet:
Its essence is vastly wrong.
III.
Poetry is the footprint
The future
Stamps upon our hearts.
IV.
Why
Poets must be killed.
V.
Why I’ve prepared your tomb:
Where all the words
May willingly hide away,
To protect you
As you protect them.
VI.
Why I’ve built your tomb
Armoured with words
Protecting you
As you protect them.
VII.
A poemtry for you
Even if you don't
Like it.
VIII.
A poemtry for you:
Like it
Or not.
