Empire Day 399
Today is 14 May 2006.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Unhappy birth of the United States Empire Day!
Time to take a ride into the past on one of HH’s favourite horses.
On this date in 1607, three ships (financed by the Virginia Company of London) anchored off what came to be known as Jamestown Island, up the James River in what is now Virginia. (The ships were the Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery.) Settlers being put ashore, they founded Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in what is now the United States Empire.
The true birthdate of the USE is 14 May 1607, not July 4th 1776. The latter is merely the anniversary of a hostile takeover, a change of rulers, a shuffling of cards.
(E.g.: Before July 4th, females and African Americans were property of white males; after July 4th, females and African Americans were … )
So, today is the 399th anniversary of the establishment of the United States Empire (USE).
Your official MoB position on Empire Day 399:
"O, that my head were waters,
O, that my eyes were a fountain of tears,
That I might weep for the slain ..."
Jeremiah 9:1

By the generalized nature of your daily comments, I have to assume you do not live in the USA (that's United States of America, not United States Empire.) I assume this, too, by the way you spell the words 'honour' and 'favourite.'
I am sorry that you feel the need to continually trash the United States of America. Although it has its flaws, it has its good points, too. Though you have your blog site and are free to spout about what is wrong with the USA, do you think anyone is really paying any attention?
If you live in the USA, are you actively doing anything about it, or are you just sitting safely in your confortable chair in front of your computer and shooting off your mouth?
It is apparent that you have extenvise geo-political and historical knowledge, however, you need to channel that into something productive.
If you live in the USA, I am courious as to when you will be leaving. I presume you will be living in the United Kingdom (or perhaps France), based on the affected way you choose to spell "honour" and "favourite."
"...do you think anyone is really paying any attention?"
Well, at least one anonymous person is.
And you, sir or ma'am: how do you feel about the USA at this time? Are you satisfied with the direction our leaders are taking us?
I certainly am not. I will do what I can to get these corrupt Republican scoundrels out of office. That entails both talking and acting.
How about you?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM talking and acting. And, no, I am NOT satisfied with the direction our leaders are taking us. However, I do not blame, wholesale, Republicans for the shape we are in. Not all Republicans are "scoundrels." There are plenty of Democratic scoundrels out there, too. Remember, the quality of our leaders is reflected in the ballot box.
Frankly, Democrats have so little power now that they have no opportunity to be scoundrels. So practically all the scoundrels in question are Republicans.
Not all Republicans are scoundrels, but I will not be voting for scoundrel-enablers, either.
Whatever . . . .
