Beep Beep

Today is Wednesday, 4 October 2006.

On this date in 1957, the first artificial satellite of Earth, Sputnik I, was launched by the USSR.

Later on this date in 2006, the HH family cocker spaniel, Emma Goldman, comes home from the vet, after arduous ear surgery.

This column will be updated throughout the day.

This whole Foley thing.

Pedophilia has nothing to do with gender choices, sexuality whatevers, etc.

The more science learns about the brain, the more we understand that such things are a result of physically-organic mental illness. Some people are cursed by brain chemistry, not demonic possession or any such other superstitions.

HH should probably shut up about this now, before he gets too emotional, but he's known too many people and their loved ones who've been damaged by such things ... our empire spends so many useless billions on imperialism, what if we spent a fraction on trying to heal?

Nature 1 - Nurture 0

for those keeping score. I am sceptical that either of these proposed causes comprises the be all end all for behaviors/responses that fall at the extreme ends of the human socialization spectrum.

However, I am in agreement that investing in education, treatment, rehabilitation, the establishment of alternative societies and/or other creative measures advances humanity, rather than reinforcing brutality.

Hell, siphoning money away from our current leadership in out of the box brutality measures would be a first step back from the thousand mile journey we appear to be making in our rapid retreat toward medieval brutality.

As clarification of the previous post, I doubt that same gender sexual orientation may be objectively categorized as falling at the extreme end of the socialization spectrum regardless of societal or historical perspective in which the orientations is viewed.

On the other hand, predatory (distinguished from parasitic) behaviors, (whether sexual, emotional, spiritual or financial) that harm others, exist of necessity at the periphery of animal societies.
