Blech
Today is Saturday, 28 August 2010.
In his “Restore Honor” infomercial today, Glenn Beck said, “Something that is beyond man is happening. America today begins to turn back to God.”
Which “God” might that be?
Were Beck to be sincere in the faith he professes, that “God” can only be the “God” of Mormonism, for, were Beck to be sincere, Beck believes no other “God” exists.
However, America has never had a majority believing in Mormonism.
Therefore, America cannot turn back to a “God” to which it never turned.
Beck isn’t ignorant; Beck knows this. The only conclusion: the truth is not in Beck.
Beck schemes that each individual imagines that Beck invokes the “God” in which each individual believes, whichever one that might be.
And thus believing Beck a “godly” man, they will believe what Beck says, and follow Beck.
Beck cavorts like a clown, Beck has a ravenous appetite for attention, but Beck is not harmless: Beck craves first political influence, and then actual power.
Beck’s only “God” is Beck.
“America: Turn back to Beck!”
Taking the name of “God” in vain. Self-idolatry. False messiah.
Common political hack.

Mr. Beck and his grandiose schemes always reminds me of a classic moment in American television. Lucy Ricardo is unable to hatch an acceptable (crazy) plan, and exhorts Ethel Mertz to give it a go. Ethel replies, "Oh no... When Einstein can't solve a problem, you don't hand it off to Mortimer Snerd." Quite right, Ms. Mertz.
I do believe, however, that Mortimer Snerd would be rather more able to solve some of the problems facing the Republic than Mr. Beck - primarily because it is quite clear that Mr. Beck is bi-polar. His comments and demeanor on his television and radio programmes often reveal his mental illness. Such chaps are often beguiled by religion, the grandiose, and usually quite crave attention. He has experienced a number of mental breakdowns on camera - some of which are marked by crying, declarations of "love for country", and various and sundry inappropriate behavior (even for him). He is to be pitied.
