In 1823, President James Monroe decreed the entire Western Hemisphere to be the exclusive property of the USA/USE. This became known as the “Monroe Doctrine” (German equivalent: Lebensraum).
Among the many fruits of the Doctrine: on this date in 1980, members of the Salvadoran military (a close comprador ally of the USA/USE) raped, tortured, and murdered four female American religious workers.
