Da Bomb for DV

Today remains Sunday, 30 July 2006.

This one is for our friend, the Rev. Dr. DV, who shortly departs Tulsa, OK for Philadelphia, PA, in pursuit of an advanced degree.

When your author moved from T to NYC, some two decades ago, an adventure.

Your author moved to NYC to study at The New School for Social Research, and lived on 34th Street, just a couple of blocks down from Macy’s and the Empire State Building.

Your author arrived in NYC on Sunday, school started on Monday, and he took the subway down to the Village that morning, and had breakfast at Blimplie’s, across from the school.

He would do so all year, since it was a DEAL: 99 cents for two eggs, toast, French fries, and coffee. He always sat at Table 2, which was on the Sixth Avenue side, and every morning, during breakfast, a lady walked by with her dachshund, who invariably carried a large purple plastic bone in his mouth, so proudly.

He seemed to say, “I’m a New Yorker, I’ve got a damned big purple bone and you don’t, and my life is large.”

Godspeed to DV, and may her life be so large.
