In Memory of Betty Comden
Today is Friday, 24 November 2006.
With great sorrow, the Museum of the Bourgeois memorializes the death of Betty (Cohen) Comden, Broadway lyricist extraordinaire, half of Comden-Green.
Just google the dame, and you’ll realize a dozen tunes ringin’ in your head … well, that’s Betty.
“The Bronx is up and the Battery’s down,
The people ride in a hole in the ground,
New York, New York,
It’s a helluva town.”
Well, here’s a sign off for the lady:
“Now you must wake up
All dreams must end
Take off your makeup
The party’s over
It’s all over, my friend.”
