OUTSTANDING find HH!!

Boomers had a wonderful introduction to the music of the masters through cartoons. I could prime the pump with just a few that immediately leap to mind.

The mynah and the hunter - Fingals Cave Mendelssohn

The WW II industrial might cartoons - Fifth Symphony Beethoven

Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd "Kill the Rabbit" - Die Walkure Wagner

Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd "Hiawatha" - Interlude from the 1812 Overture Rossini

Alfred Hitchcock Presents (not a cartoon - sue me) - Funeral March of a Marionette Gounod

The Huntley-Brinkley News Hour - "Scherzo" Ninth Symphony Beethoven

I do not wish to give the jazz masters short shrift but I leave it to others who may wish to contribute.

But...I must give propers to Mighty Mouse for Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd. Any Max Fleisher cartoon. The 1930s movie cartoons featuring parodies of the cinema stars and musicians of the day (including a number of black jazz musicians who couldn't get into the white theaters except via cartoons).

Got a taste of that New York City cool jazz with Top Cat.

etc.

Don't know if it was a local PBS fundraiser or if it was the national feed but...

I recently saw Victor Borge's daughter doing a bit on the PBS fundraiser. The gift at the $360 donation level was a four CD set of the Great Dane's bits including the puntuation pronunciation routine and his appearance on the Muppets with Fozzie Bear.

They aired the piano four hands routine with Victor Borge and a Russian pianist whose name escapes me (not one of the concert hall giants like Serkin or Horowitz) playing the Lizst c# minor Rhapsody.

My family just about had to call in the white coats to pick me up off the floor.
