"Turn Our Heads and Look the Other Way" W/UPDATE
Today is Thursday, 16 August 2007.
Perhaps the greatest thing about Elvis was that, in Mississippi in a time of vicious white supremacist racism, he revered what was then known as “race music” (the industry term for “n-word” music), and fused it with other ethnic traditions.
Yes, 30 years today since Elvis died.
"Babe" Ruth also died on this date (1948), and Bela Lugosi (1956).
Elvis himself:
Can't help this, from Mojo Nixon:
HH admits: he is old enough, as a toddler, to have seen this Elvis appearance on The Milton Berle Show:

While looking for anything actually telling me WHY in the hell Elvis wanted to become a fuckin' DEA agent of all things (having the honor bestowed while meeting with Nixon in 1970), I ran across this interesting story about a good deed E did a couple months before his death, helping a kid who was getting beaten up at a gas station in Madison, WI (article is from the online Wisconsin State Journal), link: Elvis was memorable in fighting scene here Note the rather creepy visual, though, about 3/4 of the way through the story: "...Elvis was wearing his trademark aviator sunglasses and "DEA Agent" navy blue jumpsuit over his sparkling stage outfit..." It was a nice thing for the King to do to break up the fight, and it's a cool story.
But I like Elvis Costello better than Elvis Presley. I can't help it :)
