In Memory: Jefferson Thomas

Today is Thursday, 9 September 2010.

Melba Patillo Beals. Minnijean Brown. Elizabeth Eckford. Ernest Green. Gloria Ray Karlmark. Carlotta Walls LaNier. Terrence Roberts. Jefferson Thomas. Thelma Mothershed Wair.

They are known to history as the Little Rock Nine. In 1957, they were the brave Black students who desegregated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, an effort which required deployment of federal troops.

On Sunday last, Mr. Thomas became the first of the Nine to die.

Sadly, the degree to which a large segment of white Americans continue savagely to cling to white racism has been glaringly evident since Barack Obama became the Democratic nominee for President. This is particularly the case among the overwhelmingly-white Teabagger/Tea Party movement.

The Nine were met by prolonged mental, emotional, and physical violence. This abusiveness continues to be borne forward by the hate-spewing likes of contemporary Kluxers such as Sarah Palin, Glenn Blech, Ann Coulter, and Andrew Breitbart. It is becoming increasingly prominent in hate of Muslims and Islam.

The Museum of the Bourgeois honours the Nine for their courage, leadership, and sacrifice, and extends deepest sympathy in the loss of Mr. Thomas.

The comment seems to be stretching it a bit. Some examples, please, to support your assertion.
