Vietnam Independence Day
Today is Thursday, 2 September 2010.
On this date in 1945, the Vietminh declared the independence of Vietnam from France.
The Truman regime assisted France in attempting to regain control, in the First Indochina War. When France finally conceded defeat in 1954, the Eisenhower Republican regime engineered in “South Vietnam” the imposition of the Diem dictatorship, which refused to take part in agreed-upon elections to re-unify the country. This led to the Second Indochina War, which ended in 1975.
Motivated by the delusion of a monolithic world-wide Communist conspiracy, the Eisenhower Republican regime set into motion a war which would lead to the deaths of approx. 6,000,000 Indochinese and almost 60,000 Americans.
