"Poem for the World War"
Today is Wednesday, 1 September 2010.
“Poem for the World War”
“You listen to me;
I listen to you.
That is the way friendships work. Yes?”
You wrote me today.
You rejoice:
I rejoice.
Stubbed your toe, broke your heart:
Hurts my toe, aches my heart.
I gave you an acorn for your birthday;
You gave me a daisy.
In a desert,
A crust
Between us,
We’d die smiling into one another’s
Eyes,
Each insisting gently:
Please eat
And be saved.
Why not nations?

Who is the author?
All modesty aside, that would be moi.
Beautiful. Makes me smile, and aches my heart.
