Might Without Morality

Today is Monday, 9 April 2007.

Was it really only four years ago today?

In an unparalleled feat of arms, in less than a month, the leadership of Kaiser George, Co-Kaiser Cheney, and Field Marshall Rumsfailed had seized Baghdad, driven Saddam Hussein into hiding, and consummated the Conquest of Iraq.

Peace and Freedom reigned.

Mission Accomplished!

From Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech at Riverside Church, Manhattan, on 4 April 1967 (one year before his murder), denouncing the crime of the Vietnam War:

“We must move past indecision to action. We must find new ways to speak for peace in Vietnam and justice throughout the developing world, a world that borders on our doors. If we do not act we shall surely be dragged down the long, dark and shameful corridors of time reserved for those who possess power without compassion, might without morality, and strength without sight.”

I am beginning to believe that our nation's existence is a creation of the French national imagination in satisfaction of their keen appreciation for the absurd.

I can think of no other plausible rationale for the existence of a country that demonstrates such a boundless capacity for revealing the absurdity of its soul with such a blithely ignorant elan.

HH: Repeated whining on your part. Any solutions "besides impeach and convict?"

Impeach and convict...excellent idea. This idiot and his courtiers need to go. I think there is a good chance it will happen, too.

Hari: Don't know where you get you impressions or ideas, but "impeach and convict" will not happen. Not withstanding what the Bush Administration has done in its six years in office, more than that, unfortuneately, would consitute 'high treason' and 'criminal acts' in the minds of the American people and the split legislature.

If what the Bushites have wrought over the last six years fails to meet a political standard of what would constitute "high crimes and treason" with the American public, then the country of my birth is no longer governed by its foundation documents and governance by representative democracy has become a publicly endorsed sham.

Nonetheless, the statement to which I'm responding would unfortunately represent a majority opinion of the citizens of my birth state if Senators Inhofe and Coburn can be said to truly represent their political, intellectual and moral sentiments.

BushCo is using every trick they know to run out the clock on this term. Not saying they can't succeed, but momentum is building against them, and Bush's steadfast denial of reality will only bring the comeuppance sooner...especially as the time draws close for Congressional Republicans to stand for election.

The "Et tu, Brute?" cuts will be delivered in an attempt to distance the GOP from Bush's disatrous shambles of a government.
