Why Jane & Dick Can't Thimk
Today is Tuesday, 20 November 2012.

According to many conservative Christianists, the deity is a duplicitous
and cruel asshole.
Their deity created a fossil record replete with dinosaurs, etc.,
consistent scientifically only with the view that Earth is some 4.5 billion
years old. Yet the deity actually
created the Earth only 6,000 to 10,000 years ago, and, if you don’t believe
that, you fry in hellfire forever. What
a wild and crazy sense of humour! Coyote
the trickster has nothing on him!
(A Gallup poll released last June showed that 46% of Americans believe that
the Earth was created 10,000 or less years ago, a number which has remained
constant since the question was first asked 30 years ago.)
Now comes Marc Rubio, Republi senator from Florida, and Legend in His Own
Mind.
In a recent GQ interview, the MarcMan was asked, “How old do you think the
Earth is?”
“I’m not a scientist, man [such a common touch!]. I can tell you what recorded history says, I
can tell you what the Bible says, but I think that’s a dispute amongst
theologians and I think it has nothing to do with the gross domestic product or
economic growth of the United States.
Whether the Earth was created in seven days, or seven actual eras, I’m not
sure we’ll ever be able to answer that.
It’s one of the great mysteries.”
No wonder, with weasels such as … pardon me, no reason to insult
weasels. With cynical power-lusters such
as Rubio influencing the ideological climate, ‘tis no wonder so many American
children are best by ignorance.
