A Day That Will Live in Infamy
Today is Tuesday, 19 February 2013.
On this date in 1942, FDR signed Executive Order 9066, which authorized the US military to declare certain sections of the country as military exclusion zones, from which any person, citizen or not, could be forcibly removed.
This Order was the basis for the infamous deportation of tens of thousands of native-born Americans of Japanese and Korean ancestry from the West Coast, and their incarceration in prison camps, for no reason other than racist prejudice. (Only a few thousands of Americans of German and Italian descent were incarcerated.)
The Order was not revoked until 1976.
Reparation payments were not authorized and made until 1990 to 1998.
A never-ending wrong.

On this date in 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy, addressing a Republican gathering in Wheeling, West Virginia, made his infamous and false claim that he held in his hand a list of 57 commies in the U.S. Department of State, known to be such by the Secretary, and allowed to shape U.S. foreign policy.
Now, the Republican leadership is crammed with McCarthy-ettes, slandering and libeling Obama, when they simply lust after being able to simply scream "N****r! N****r! N****r!", over and over, ad infinitum.
Would it be too cruel to hope that their hate results in multiple strokes?

Of course, pedophilia, like rape, is not a primarily "sexual" crime. Both are crimes of power, violence, and domination.
Likewise, the sexual orientation of pedophiles (almost always male) is fundamentally irrelevant.
Of course, many far-right "Christianists" claim that most or all pedophiles are homosexual. Fact is, most pedophiles self-identify as "straight" and practice heterosexuality.
What's the real reason these "Christianists" demand "no gay scoutmasters"?
They believe that all gays want little boys, and, as noted above, most pedophiles are straight, and so ... the "Christianists" delusionally imagine homosexuals as their competion.

The only good thing I can imagine about my current exile from New York City: far less Koch.
Reading the fawning obituaries would lead the unwary to presume that Messiah appeared in NYC, not Israel. Koch was given credit for every good thing that happened during his administrations, from saving the city financially to ending intersection congestion. Of course, when it comes to the massive corruption scandals, the party line remains, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."
In reality, in human history, the deciding factor is, not the Lone Ranger, but social forces greater than any one person. To convince the masses that the opposite is true is one of the most powerful methods of manipulation, domination, and exploitation by the elite. Ed Koch, in his extraordinary venality, was glad to serve his masters in this deception.
May Koch fry in hell for choosing his power-lust over any significant support for the victims in the early days of AIDS.
