A Presidential Pardon

Today is Friday, 28 December 2012.
Congratulations to my Friend and her husband, married 32 years ago today.
______________________________________________

On 16 March 1968, American troops under the direct command of Lt. William L. Calley, Jr. conducted the My Lai Massacre, exterminating more than 500 Vietnamese civilians.  Calley was court-martialed and sentenced to life at hard labor in 1971.
Calley “served” his appeal time under house arrest in an apartment at Fort Benning, rather than in prison.  He received a limited Presidential Pardon in 1974.  He then vanished into obscurity, employed by his father-in-law at his jewelry shop in Columbus, Georgia.
Please ponder this, as I will soon make a proposal concerning a Presidential Pardon.

BFD

Today is Thursday, 27 December 2012.

General Norman Schwarzkopf, commander of the American-led coalition which won the First Gulf War (1991), has died in Tampa, Florida, aged 78.  He is lauded to the skies and beyond, then and now, as the greatest American general officer since Ike and MacArthur.

Horse puckey.

The most powerful military of the most powerful empire in the history of the world swiftly and easily crushed a miserable little Third World dictatorship (with a GNP approximating that of mighty ... North Dakota).  Of course, the actual command results of "Stormin' Norman" left, ahem, much to be desired.

Due to Schwarzkopf's incompetent coordination of the Army and Marines, most of the elite Republican Guard, a primary target, escaped relatively intact.  The bridges, power plants, dams, and other civilian infrastructure of Iraq were almost completely destroyed, leading to years of misery for millions already victimized by the dictatorship.  And Saddam Hussein was continued in power.  But hey, who cares about that crap?  Put one in the win column!

Schwarzkopf should have been busted to private and tried, along with G.H.W. Bush, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Ain't imperialist mythology wunnerful?

Cars Don't Kill People...

Today remains Monday, 24 December 2012.
________________________________________________

Far-right Senator Mike Crapo (R, ID) gave himself an early Christmas present that quickly went south early Sunday morning last:  he got plastered, ran a red light in Virginia, tested for a criminal blood-alcohol level, and was locked up for several hours for drunk driving.
And he’s oh so oh so sorry he was caught and may have damaged his career:  “I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance.  I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituent and any others who have put their trust in me.  I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter.  I will also undertake measures [author’s note – a cab would be nice] to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated.”
An automobile in the hands of a drunk driver is a potential murder weapon.
Cars don’t kill people, people kill people.
But, as with guns, only if they’re used.

"War on Christmas" Is More American Than Apple Pie

Today is Monday, 24 December 2012.

The Ku Klux Klan was founded on this date in 1865.
__________________________________________

I’ve yet to meet a Christian who announces themselves as a Bible-believer – the Bible, the whole Bible literally, and nothing but the Bible – who was anything other than a “cafeteria Christian”.
That is, they pick and choose, for example, what in the Bible remains relevant.  And they and their churches serve items unknown on the Biblical menu.
For example, Christmas.  While the birth of Jesus is mentioned in the Gospels, there is no trace of a “feast” or other commemoration as we now know it.  (That wasn’t regularized until the early 4th Century C.E.)
And the original Founding Fathers, the Puritans, well before the sluggards who wrote the Constitution and are usually designated the FFs, denounced Christmas as being a pagan festival (the Roman Saturnalia) in no uncertain terms.  From 1659 to 1681 in Massachusetts, observance of Christmas was a punishable criminal act.
Thus, the “War on Christmas” is even more American than apple pie.
Is Fox News worshipping and obeying Satan?

And the Horse He Rode Up On, As It Were
Today is Sunday, 23 December 2012.
On this date in 1805, Joseph Smith, concocter of “Mormonism”, was born.
On this date in 1888, Vincent Van Gogh cut off his earlobe.

Thomas “Jefferson [believed that Jews] were “pests in society” and “as incapable as children of taking care of themselves.””  “Their griefs are transient”, he wrote and their love lacked “a tender delicate mixture of sentiment and sensation.”
Jefferson claimed he had “never seen an elementary trait of painting or sculpture” or poetry among [Jews], and argued that [Jew] ability to “reason” was “much inferior” to whites, while “in imagination they are dull, tasteless, and anomalous.”  He conceded that [Jews] were brave, but that this was because of “a want of fore-thought, which prevents their seeing a danger till it be present.”  He concluded that [Jews] were “inferior to the whites in the endowments of body and mind.”
“[Jefferson] believed that by opposing the spread of slavery in the West, the children of the revolution were about to “perpetrate” an “act of suicide on themselves and of treason against the hopes of the world.”
(The preceding is from an Op-Ed by Paul Finkelman, “The Monster of Monticello” (The New York Times, 30 November2012).)
I have, of course, substituted “Jews” for “blacks”.
Yet, Jefferson was quite willing to enjoy sexual intercourse with at least one of these animals, a practice defined as “bestiality”.  And he was more than willing to work his slaves to death, to satisfy his unbounded appetites in art, travel, fine wines, etc.
It’s evident that, when Bestiality Tom wrote that “all men are created equal”, he meant that “all white males of sufficient net worth who have perverted sex with animals are created equal.”
The phrase sounds rather better when undeconstructed.

This "Silent Night" Crap

Today is Saturday, 22 December 2012.

Birthday, in 1858, of Giacomo Puccini.

In 1894, Capt. Alfred Dreyfus of the French army is wrongly found guilty of treason, and condemned to Devil's Island.

In 1895, Willhelm Roentgen made the first X-ray (of his wife's hand).

In 1937, the Lincoln Tunnel beneath the Hudson opens in NYC; I could see the entry road from my pad in Manhattan.

In1943, Beatrix Potter died.
________________________________________

As of 10.08pm CST (04.09 Universal Time), the N.R.A. and American firearms "enthusiasts" have failed miserably to apply themselves to their vocation:  not one firearms massacre has taken place on this day in this great bloody land of ours.

What's up with this "Silent Night" crap?

Why haven't you commemorated Bernard Goetz's shooting of four would-be Black muggers on a subway train on this date in 1984?  Bernie said, "You don't look so bad," before shooting one wounded man in the back as he lay helplessly on the train floor.  Now THAT'S self-defense!

His pad was a few doors down from my first NYC office (Fourteenth Street).  A twitchy, paranoid, spooky headcase.  I sure as hell never turned my back on him, when we encountered on the street.

Are you saving your ammunition for Christmas, to give that baby a fitting entry into this world?

"Stole It Fair and Square"

Today is Thursday, 20 December 2012.
Birthday of the Princess of Seafood City.
___________________________________
“After all, we stole it fair and square.”  S. I. Hayakawa, Republican Senator from California (1977).
Such has always been the American white-right position on the Panama Canal.  No “Thou shalt not steal” crap from a “girly God” for them, thank you very much.
General Manuel Noriega, who became military dictator of Panama in 1983, was also an “asset” of CIA since the late 1950s, and was paid right handsomely for his treason.  Then he became increasingly too big for his britches, forgetting who his Daddy was.
George H. W. “Big W” Bush determined to put an end to this nonsense, and, on this date in 1989, invaded Panama, under the code name “Operation Just Cause”.  (The Museum of the Bourgeois prefers “Operation Just Because”.)
Noriega was swiftly driven from office, a traditionally-pliable leadership installed, and the Re-Conquest was complete.
Can you say “neo-colonialism”?  “I knew you could.”

Are Dicks Bullet-Proof?
Today remains Wednesday, 19 December 2012.
Writing today in National Review, misogynist Charlotte Allen wrote:

"There was not a single adult male on the school premises when the shooting occurred ... in general, a feminized setting is a setting in which helpless passivity is the norm [my italics].  Male aggression can be a good thing, as in protecting the weak -- but it has been forced out of the culture of elementary schools and the education schools that train their personnel. Think what Sandy Hooke might have been like if a couple of male teachers who had played high-school football, or even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys, had converged on Lanza."
I had failed to notice that dicks are bullet-proof.
However, I have noticed that, as in your case, not all pricks are male.
Second Amendment Reality, Continued

Today is Wednesday, 19 December 2012.

In yesterday’s column, I should have noted District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), in the U.S. Supreme Court.
This decision, the judicial equivalent of a Moebius Strip formed with a bagel (preferably garlic or salt), would be laughable in what passes for reasoning, were it not for the fact that it confirms the open door policy for legalized firearms murders.
Along with Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000), a treat for the connoisseur of judicial contortionism.

Second Amendment Reality
Today is Tuesday, 18 December 2012.
_______________________________________________

For purposes of logical analysis, recast the Second Amendment in the form of an “If/then” statement.
IF a “well regulated militia” is “necessary to the security of a free State”, THEN “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.
Well regulated militias have not existed and have therefore played no role in ensuring the security of a free State since well before the Civil War.  Therefore, the “IF” part of the statement is, as they say, “inoperative”, and has no existence or force in contemporary American society.  Therefore, the “THEN” part of the statement is also inoperative, null, and void.
Therefore, there is no Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, any more than there is a Constitutional right to keep and bear battery-operated toothbrushes.

Happiness Is a Warm ... Gun

Today is Wednesday, 12 December 2012.
_____________________________________________

Given that statistics have shown for years that, if one uses a gun to confront an intruder in one’s home, chances are 5 out of 6 that it will be someone in your household who is harmed, if anyone … I wouldn’t bet those odds in Vegas, let alone on the lives of loved ones.
The Second Amendment has no relevance today.  The ”right to bear arms” is predicated on membership in a “well-regulated militia”.  No such militia exists, thus there can be no such right today.
Situations such as those at the Oregon mall require, not blasting away by persons who once “entertained” themselves by shooting off a half-box of rounds at a firing range, but combat skills of a very high order, possessed by very few.
The promiscuous availability of handguns and semi- and fully-automatic weapons means easy access by persons of troubled mind.
Let the gun manufacturers and the N.R.A. suffer diminished profits.  I’m entirely concerned with the griefs, sorrows, and losses of those left behind by the victims.

The Shameful 38

Today is Wednesday, 5 December 2012.

Mozart died on this date in 1791.

Monet died on this date in 1926.

Dave Brubeck died today.
______________________________________
Call me mean-spirited if you wish, but I can’t help but hope that the 38 U.S. senators who voted yesterday against ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, causing it to fail, become themselves disabled, as soon and as debilitatingly as possible.
Their reasons were basically the same old dreck we’ve heard since the U.N. was founded:  it’s a Jew …. wait, a Commie … wait, an Islamic plot to enslave Americans under a One World Dictatorship.  Or perhaps it’s a plot of persons with disabilities.
Senator Harry Reid (D, NV):  “It is a sad day when we cannot pass a treaty that simply brings the world up to the American standard for protecting people with disabilities because the Republican Party is in thrall to extremists and ideologues.”
The shameful 38 are certainly and fatally morally disabled.

Forgotten, But Not Gone

Today is Tuesday, 4 December 2012.

Special to Delta Mike Zulu.

"Use 'em up, throw 'em away" has long been the reality behind the lip service to American war veterans.  Change may be coming.

Students of the Veterans Legal Clinic at Yale Law School have filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of Vietnam veterans who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and were given other-than-honorable discharges.  The suit demands that they receive upgraded discharges.

("Vietnam Veterans, Discharged Under Cloud, File Suit Saying Trauma Was Cause", by James Dao, in today's The New York Times)

PTSD was as obvious as the nose on your face at the time, but not "formally recognized" until 1980.  Should veterans suffering from it be retroactively diagnosed?  DOH!  If so, should current policies to protect those suffering be applied retroactively?  Double DOH!

If the suit is successful, how should treatment be financed?

Begin by stripping all officers of all their taxpayer-donated extensive privileges.  Let them live in enlisted-grade barracks, dine with the enlisted personnel they claim to admire and love so much, drive their own personal vehicles (and no mileage allowances!), forfeit fancy pensions and other benefits, etc.

Let a special tax be levied on all civilians who hypocritically spout support for the troops, while ignoring their suffering.

Far past time to put monies where mouths are.

Thanks for Nothing, W.

Today is Sunday, 2 December 2012.

The New York Times today reports that the Iraqi government is facilitating an Iranian arms airlift to the squalid and vicious dictatorship in Syria.

Thus far, the al-Maliki dictatorship has inspected only two Iranian flights crossing its territory, and one was "accidentally" searched while returning to Iran from Damascus.  Oops, as TX Repugnican Gov. Rick Perry would say.

Yet another fine benefit of the Conquest of Iraq by the squalid and vicious regime of George W. Bush.
